Staff and social commitment

Alongside environmental and economic responsibility, sustainability also encompasses social responsibility. LANDI Switzerland shapes the everyday lives of many people, as it is involved in numerous labour sectors: from production to logistics and warehousing, through to purchasing, sales and marketing. Staff contribute significantly to the success of our company, all along the supply chain. For this reason, it is of great importance to us that we take their needs into account in everything we do. As an employer, business partner and part of society, we bear a special responsibility.

amfori BSCI: Minimum social standards for the entire product range

Since 2017, LANDI Switzerland has adhered to the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct when purchasing goods internationally. The association amfori BSCI has over 2'000 members, who are jointly committed to greater sustainability in supply chains, which includes the aspect of working conditions. The Code of Conduct obliges suppliers and producers from ‘risk countries’ (according to the amfori Country Risk Classification and the UNICEF Children’s Climate Risk Index) to observe, implement and continually improve minimum social standards all along the supply chain. Independent specialists regularly check compliance with the Code of Conduct. The letter contains the following 11 core principles pertaining to labour rights, which must be observed by producers and suppliers alike:

  • The rights of freedom of association and collective bargaining
  • Fair remuneration
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Special protection for young workers
  • No forced labour
  • Ethical business behaviour
  • No discrimination
  • Decent working hours
  • No child labour
  • No precarious employment
  • Protection of the environment

LANDI Switzerland assists new suppliers with implementation and helps them to go through the BSCI admission process. If this is not successful, LANDI Switzerland will not purchase any products from these suppliers. This gives our customers the assurance that fundamental human rights and fair working conditions are upheld in risk countries.

Terms of employment at LANDI Switzerland

The social dimension of sustainability includes, for example, fair working conditions, equal opportunities, health protection and employee co-determination, which are essential for LANDI Switzerland’s long-term success. LANDI Switzerland employs around 460 staff and offers multifaceted challenging roles, with development potential and good social benefits. The Human Resources Committee (HRC) works to cultivate a trusting working environment, in the interests of LANDI Switzerland and its staff.

The terms of employment at LANDI Switzerland are set out in the binding fenaco collective labour agreement (CLA). These are reviewed in social-partnership-based cooperation with the trade unions Syna and Unia and adjusted if necessary. The terms of employment encompass attractive benefits, such as up to 35 days of holiday, 14 to 16 weeks of maternity leave and 15 days of paternity leave, as well as a pension plan via the in-house pension fund. After five years of service, employees also benefit from loyalty bonuses, either in the form of money or additional days of holiday, whichever they prefer. The package is supplemented by numerous benefits, including continuing education and training, discounted insurance, ‘Reka money’ from the Swiss Travel Fund, mobile phone subscriptions, and discounts on cars, tyres, furniture and wine.

Company Challenge – sustainability project for apprentices

The LANDI cooperatives and LANDI Switzerland offer a variety of apprenticeships (LANDI apprenticeship – LANDI). During the training period, the fenaco-LANDI Group’s apprentices take part in the Company Challenge and spend five months working on climate protection projects. The aim is for apprentices to learn and understand how to use resources efficiently, and to take responsibility for the environment in their daily work. Ideas for promoting sustainability within companies are assessed and initiated, and their implementation is supervised. After implementation, the jury selects the best projects and awards them prizes.

Diverse affiliations

Affiliation with initiatives, industry associations or certification programmes helps companies to enhance environmental and social standards in a targeted manner. Such affiliations provide access to expertise, facilitate exchanges with relevant stakeholders and demonstrate that a company is actively addressing the relevant issues.

That is why LANDI Switzerland is represented within a very wide variety of initiatives and associations, for which it is also an active partner. For example, we have regular exchanges with the following organisations:
