Protection of the environment and climate
LANDI Switzerland’s trading activities depend greatly on an intact environment, as this contributes to the long-term quality and availability of its products. It is also well known that commercial goods have an impact on the environment throughout their life cycle – from raw material production to processing and transport, through to use and disposal. This gives us a responsibility to help protect the environment.
Reducing CO₂ emissions
The effects of climate change are also noticeable in the retail sector. As part of a global value chain, we share responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions. This applies to how our goods are produced, as well as to distribution and operations. Climate protection is therefore a key component of our corporate responsibility. This is taken into account all along the value chain: from production to transport and logistics, through to energy-efficient operation of our locations.
In order to implement impact-oriented measures, LANDI Switzerland calculates its CO2 emissions every two years, in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Greenhouse gas emissions can be divided into three ‘scopes’:
- Scope 1 encompasses all direct emissions from our own sources, such as heating systems and company vehicles.
- Scope 2 concerns indirect emissions from purchased energy, such as electricity and heat.
- Scope 3 includes all other indirect emissions along the value chain – from the manufacture of our products to transport and use to disposal.
As we are a retail company, scope 3 accounts for around 98 percent of our total emissions. Identifying and calculating these emissions for over 8'000 products is complex, as the base data is constantly changing, and reliant on information from suppliers, service providers and consumers.
LANDI Switzerland is continually taking measures to reduce CO2 emissions and has committed to the following CO2 targets:
Scopes 1 and 2:
- 50 percent CO2 reduction by 2030 (base year 2021) and net zero by 2040. To achieve this, all fossil-fuel-powered heating systems are being replaced, renewable electricity sources are being sourced, and the company’s vehicle fleet is being converted to fossil-free drive systems, for example.
Scope 3:
- LANDI Switzerland is always implementing at least three projects for effective reduction of scope-3 CO2 emissions. Here, issues are tackled in an impact-oriented manner and dealt with across all departments. Specific ongoing projects include ensuring emission reductions for our products with our suppliers, working with our carriers to reduce CO2 emissions from shop deliveries, and reducing packaging emissions.
As the data is difficult to compare and constantly changing, LANDI Switzerland has decided against public disclosure of its own carbon footprint. However, a very wide variety of measures are being implemented across all departments to achieve these goals.
Climate-resilient, biodiversity-friendly plants and beneficial organisms
Due to climate change (e.g. rising temperatures, longer dry spells, extreme weather events and declining biodiversity), climate-resilient plants are becoming increasingly important. Our product range takes these developments into account. It includes water-saving, biodiverse plant species and seeds that are characterised by their robustness and biological diversity. These properties are highlighted accordingly in the names of our products. In addition, we rely on the use of beneficial organisms for biological pest control. This is a more environmentally friendly alternative to chemical agents and improves plant health. In this way, LANDI Switzerland is helping to adapt to changing environmental conditions and helps to facilitate sustainable gardens.

Biological plant protection and beneficial organisms
Ecosystems around the world are under increasing pressure from deforestation, soil overuse and climate change. Biodiversity, meaning the diversity of plants, animals and microorganisms, is an essential prerequisite for stable, functioning habitats. As a retailer in the non-food sector, LANDI Switzerland also has a responsibility to preserve and promote such habitats. For this reason, we offer biological plant protection products and beneficial organisms in our product range. The use of beneficial organisms is a form of biological pest control, in which organisms are used to combat harmful insects, thereby preserving biodiversity.

Partnership with beekeepers association BienenSchweiz
Bees play a key role in preserving our biodiversity and in making sure that our ecosystems function properly. They pollinate our crops and wild plants, and serve as a food source for numerous animal species. Due to declining biodiversity, honey bees and wild bees are suffering from a shortage of food. Almost half of the 600-plus wild bee species in Switzerland are under threat. To provide support, LANDI Switzerland has entered a partnership with the Swiss beekeepers association BienenSchweiz. This association represents the interests of around 14'000 beekeepers in Switzerland and is committed to preserving biodiversity and protecting pollinators.

Swiss Animal Protection
As part of our long-standing commitment to sustainable business practices, LANDI Switzerland works in close cooperation with Swiss Animal Protection (SAP). This strategic partnership has a clear goal: to focus on animal welfare and jointly strive for continual improvement. This collaboration ensures that we always incorporate the most relevant and up-to-date findings into our processes. By providing specific information and detailed fact sheets, we promote responsible animal husbandry. On this basis, LANDI Switzerland advises its customers and helps them to ensure proper, animal-friendly product use.

Use of recycled paper for advertising
Every two weeks, LANDI Switzerland sends advertising brochures to around 1.2 million Swiss households. The paper used for this is 100 percent recycled: an effective way to reduce the ecological footprint. Compared to the production of virgin fibre paper, the production of recycled paper consumes much less wood, energy and water. At the same time, the greenhouse gas emissions are lower, so LANDI Switzerland is helping to preserve resources, to reduce environmental impact and to facilitate a functioning circular economy.
In addition, only recycled photocopying paper is used at LANDI Switzerland’s workplaces.
Conversion of company vehicles to alternative drive systems
One key measure to reduce LANDI Switzerland’s scope-1 emissions to net zero by 2040 at the latest is the conversion of its company vehicles to alternative drive systems. At the start of 2025, a concept was drawn up, specifying which vehicles had to be converted to which drive systems by when, in order to reach the set target. In addition, framework conditions were defined, which staff must take into account when procuring company cars. If staff are equipped to charge electric cars at home, they are provided with electric cars. If not, full hybrid cars are used for the time being. These cause between 20 and 40 percent fewer emissions than conventional petrol or diesel cars. In efforts to reach LANDI Switzerland’s net-zero target by 2040, technological developments and legal framework conditions are being monitored on an ongoing basis.
5-year product guarantee
Our customers benefit from a five-year guarantee on many of the products they purchase from us, which encourages long-term use of the products and thus reduces waste. If repair or servicing is required, products can be brought to a LANDI shop. LANDI Switzerland undertakes to remedy any product defects during the guarantee period by means of repair – and to only resort to replacement if repair is impossible or infeasible.

Repairs offered at our service centre
Maximising the service life of products is essential for promoting sustainability: The longer a product is used, the lower its emissions throughout its lifespan. Professional maintenance and repair can significantly extend products’ service life, thus making an effective contribution to the reduction of environmental impact.
LANDI Switzerland operates a service centre with around 60 qualified staff, at its headquarters in Dotzigen. The equipment, bicycle and motorcycle technicians repair defective products and carry out over 65,000 servicing jobs each year. The customer service team also answers questions about servicing jobs, and the operation of equipment, on an ongoing basis. For selected equipment under guarantee, many LANDI outlets also offer end consumers free use of replacement equipment on loan while repair work is carried out.

Composting for home and garden
Composting is a biological process, in which microorganisms, fungi and microbes break down organic material into its natural components, and convert it into humus, a nutrient-rich substance that improves the structure and fertility of soil. Composting is therefore an environmentally friendly way to recycle organic waste and turn it into valuable humus. Consequently, composting helps to reduce waste and avoid greenhouse gas emissions. The resulting compost can be used directly as fertiliser for your garden. Proper aeration and a suitable composter provide the basis for high-quality compost.
